Minipublic

A minipublic denotes a small, representative group of individuals randomly selected from the general population to engage in deliberative processes. This selection ensures a cross-section of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences, contributing to a more comprehensive representation of the community.

The purpose of mini-publics is to address potential biases inherent in larger, conventional forms of public engagement. By assembling a smaller, yet statistically representative group, the intention is to foster in-depth deliberation and decision-making.

The term “mini-public” underscores that, despite its size relative to the entire population, the group serves as a public entity, embodying the diversity of the community. Employing mini-publics is viewed as a strategy to elevate the quality and legitimacy of democratic decision-making processes by incorporating a broad spectrum of voices and viewpoints.
